Spring Term Week 5

This week we have focussed on Chinese New Year Celebrations. The children made very colourful prints that we turned into dragon faces. We had planned to make drums but due to unforeseen circumstances we had to change the topic. The children also had fun playing with the coloured rice in the messy tray.

Next week we will be doing colour mixing and using sponges and brushes to make our own Claude Monet masterpiece.

We look forward to seeing you all next week.

All the best,

Spring Term Week 3

This week we finished our weatherboards and how lovely that we have actually seen the sun in the last few days! The boards look very sweet and I hope the children will enjoy using them at home.

If you have missed sessions and your board is not complete, do ask the teachers for ideas how to complete them.

In the messy tray the children played with cornflour and conditioner. The combination of these two materials make a really lovely soft textured dough which is very easy for young children to manipulate and play with. It also has a wonderful smell as the conditioner we used was scented, quite a therapeutic activity. They used the dough to make shapes such as snowmen, clouds and suns.

Next week we will be focusing on Chinese New Year and we will make simple drums.

We look forward to seeing you all next week.

Spring Term Week 2

Spring Term Week 2

We have had a busy week with quite a few new starters and a few children who have come to try out Art Barn. We hope you all had a good class and enjoyed the activities. If you have any questions about our classes and why we do certain things, please don’t hesitate to contact us. For those of you who are new, we will email you a “How to get the most out of Art Barn” information sheet separately.

This week we have continued to work on our weatherboards so we now have a snowman, a sun a very nice blue board. Next week we will make our umbrellas and clouds.

In our messy tray the children played with powder paint in an assortment of colours. Some children much prefer the dry mess to the wet play. This type of play is not just important for our youngest children, it is very important and beneficial to our school aged children as they have daily pressure of achieving so many different things both at school and in all their after school activities.

The sensory delight of messy play is a wonderful way for children to learn about their world but more importantly, messy play can be so relaxing for children. There is no right or wrong so no pressure, just a chance to enjoy and explore the textures.

We look forward to seeing you all next week.

Spring Term Week 1

Happy New Year! We hope you have all had a good holiday. Art Barn Spring Term has started and we had a lovely first week back.

Our project for the next few weeks is to make a weather board. We started this week with “snow and cold weather” so the children made a snowman.

The children are very welcome to bring in pictures or books that show different types of weather such a skiing, playing in the snow, playing on the beach or holding an umbrella.

In the messy tray Miss Carla did water play and some groups had time to also do colouring mixing with the water which I have heard the children really enjoyed.

Next week we will paint our weather board and make a sun.

I know a lot of children were still on holiday and have missed this first week so we will make sure there are some pre made snowmen for their weather board.

We look forward to seeing you all next week.
